WoW Midnight: Azshara transmog and Zothwing mounts in the shop
Blizzard's Abyssal Crown Collection adds 2 transmog sets in the style of Azshara's corrupted regalia and 2 Zothwing mounts, sold together or singly.
On 15 September Blizzard announced the Abyssal Crown Collection in the World of Warcraft shop. It holds 2 transmog sets, Azshara's Darkscale Raiment and Azshara's Deepscale Raiment, and 2 mounts, the Zothwing Darkseeker and the Zothwing Deepseeker. Players can buy the whole collection as one bundle or pick single items. In Blizzard's own picture each set is paired with a mount: Darkscale with the Darkseeker, Deepscale with the Deepseeker.
Blizzard describes the sets as Azshara's corrupted regalia and the Zothwing mounts as touched by the Void and steeped in the dark influence of the Old Gods. In Blizzard's pictures both sets have a golden crowned helm, glowing eyes set into the armour and tentacles on the shoulders; the Darkscale set is dark, the Deepscale set pale. The mounts are flat creatures with spiked edges, trailing tentacles and clusters of glowing golden eyes: the Darkseeker is dark blue, the Deepseeker purple.
Blizzard says the Zothwing mounts are shared across all present and future characters in what it calls modern World of Warcraft. Each mount automatically uses the fastest riding skill a character knows, and a character whose level is too low for flying mounts can still ride it on the ground. Using the collection requires a World of Warcraft subscription or game time. The post does not say how long the collection will stay in the shop, and it does not mention the Classic versions or WoW Forever.
Replies to the announcement in the 2 threads on Blizzard's European and US forums are mostly critical of the transmog sets. Many players call them ugly, and some say they look like armour from the Ny'alotha raid in patch 8.3. A few also complain about paying for more cosmetics on top of a subscription, or so soon after BlizzCon. Several players say they like the mounts; one says they will wait for a sale, and another wants to see a mount fly in the game before buying. These are players' opinions. By 24 September Blizzard staff had not replied in either thread.
