WoW Forever: Blizzard working on adding Ahab and Kyle's quest
Blizzard says it is working on adding the Make-A-Wish quest Kyle's Gone Missing! to Mulgore in WoW Forever, but it has not given a date.
Blizzard is working on adding Ahab Wheathoof and his quest Kyle's Gone Missing! to WoW Forever, community manager Kaivax wrote on the official forums in the early hours of 29 September, Central European time. Players on the Forever beta had noticed that Ahab and his dog Kyle are missing from Mulgore, the tauren starting zone, and asked for them in threads on both the North American and the European forums. Kaivax posted the same short reply in both threads, less than a minute apart: "We're working on it. Stay tuned!"
The North American thread was opened on 20 September by a player whose husband was sad not to find the quest in Mulgore on the beta. The post noted that the quest only arrived with The Burning Crusade, but argued that Forever already has new quests and that adding this one should not take much work. The European thread, opened on 23 September by a player levelling a tauren druid on the beta, asked for Ahab to be added as a lasting tribute. Other players joined in both threads, and in his reply Kaivax quoted one who hoped Blizzard would make an exception to Forever's time frame for the quest.
In the quest, the old tauren rancher Ahab asks players to help him find and feed his dog, Kyle. It was designed by Ezra Chatterton, a boy from California who visited Blizzard's offices through the Make-A-Wish Foundation after he was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2007, and Ezra recorded Ahab's voice himself. The quest was added in patch 2.1.2 in June 2007, during The Burning Crusade, which is why it is not part of Forever so far. Ezra died on 20 October 2008.
Kaivax did not say when the quest will be added, whether it will be ready for launch or whether it will appear on the beta first. "Working on it" is not a promise of a date, and it does not confirm that Ahab and Kyle will be in the game when Forever launches. The beta runs until 21 October, and WoW Forever launches at 23:00 UK time on 4 November, which is midnight on 5 November in Central Europe.
