WoW Forever: solo battleground queues won't face premades

Blizzard says premade groups will only be matched against other premades in battlegrounds, with a small-group option for a few friends still planned.

In the PvP episode of the official WoW Forever podcast, Blizzard said that players who queue for a battleground on their own will not be matched against a premade group. Premade groups will only be matched against other premade groups.

Senior Game Designer Josh Greenfield added that this does not shut out people who play with a couple of friends: there will still be a small-group option. Its size is not settled yet, and Greenfield put it at around 2 to 3 players.

Classic has tried something like this before. In Phase 2 of Season of Discovery, matchmaking changes made premades less likely to face groups of players who queued alone, but after a set time in the queue those rules were dropped so the match could start. Blizzard has not said whether WoW Forever will have the same fallback, so it is not yet clear how strict the split will be when queues are long.
