WoW Midnight: Subtlety rogues may make warlocks pull extra packs
An old bug is back in the spotlight: rogue shadow clones seem to throw off Diabolist warlocks' targeting, and their summons attack mobs out of range.

An old bug has come back into view now that Subtlety rogues are everywhere in Mythic+. When a Subtlety rogue and a warlock playing the Diabolist hero talents are in the same group, the warlock can end up pulling packs nobody meant to touch, and the whole group pays for it.
The suspected cause sits in how 2 talents interact. The shadow clones created by the rogue's top talent appear to confuse the targeting of the warlock's Diabolic Oculi, a Diabolist hero talent, and of Alythessa Blaze, the warlock's top talent. Instead of sticking to the current fight, those attacks can go for almost anything in range, including enemies that are not in combat yet. Both Demonology and Destruction can take Diabolist, so either spec can be hit.
The timing is what makes it matter now. In the 12.1.5 content update Blizzard fixed a Subtlety bug and gave every Subtlety ability 14% more damage to make up for it. The change turned out to be a large gain, and Subtlety is now one of the highest-rated specs of Season 2, so many groups bring one. Some Demonology players say they feel pushed out of groups as a result.
This rests on a single report built on what players have seen in their own runs, and the cause is still a guess. Blizzard has not commented. Players say the interaction has been around for over a year and that an earlier attempt to fix it did not hold. Until there is a fix, the practical advice is simple: if packs start pulling for no clear reason, check whether a Diabolist warlock and a Subtlety rogue are in the group together.
