WoW Forever: a new battleground sits in the files

Darkspear Islands is in the beta data with its own reputation, its own marks of honour and a level range that runs well past the beta cap.

WoW ForeverPublished One report so far, not confirmed by Blizzard

A wooden causeway between two misty islands at dawn, with a plain war banner at each end.

There is a battleground in the WoW Forever data that nobody is playing yet. Darkspear Islands is listed as PvP territory for levels 30 to 60 — a range that starts exactly where the beta currently stops and carries on to the level cap of the finished game.

It is built the way old battlegrounds were. There is a reputation attached to it, the Darkspear Raiders, and there are marks of honour: Darkspear Islands Clash is a level 39 quest that asks for 3 of them, handed to an Alliance brigadier general standing outside the battlegrounds. Reputation gates the rewards in the usual way — the Darkspear Warding Pendant is item level 33, carries stamina and intellect, and wants both level 28 and honoured standing with the Raiders before it can be worn.

Almost none of that is reachable today. The beta stops at level 30, so a tester can stand at the bottom of the range and no further, and the quest that hands out the reward sits nine levels above the ceiling. Whatever the battleground turns out to be, it has been built for the game that opens in November rather than for the one being tested now.

This is read from the game's own data, not from an announcement: Blizzard has not named the battleground, explained how it is played or said when it opens, and anything in the files can still change. The beta runs until 21 October, and WoW Forever opens at 23:00 UK time on 4 November, which is midnight on 5 November in Central Europe.
