WoW Midnight: bonus roll fault brings short suspensions

The extra weekly bonus roll for Midnight's Season 2 went live with weekly maintenance in the Americas on 6 October, and for a short time after the reset the quest that hands it out could be completed again and again. Players ended the morning holding far more than the single Nebulous Voidcore a week it is meant to give; screenshots of characters carrying more than 20 of them went round player chat the same day.

Blizzard's answer came as an email rather than an announcement. It tells the player that the account "acquired more void cores than was intended", that the account is suspended until 7 October, and that "we have removed all of the void cores that were obtained beyond what was intended". The email adds that the suspension will not be lifted until the cleanup has finished and that Blizzard's support team cannot help with it. That works out at roughly 12 hours for most of those affected, which is short as suspensions go, but long enough to miss a raid night.

The timing matters outside the Americas, because weekly maintenance falls a day later in Europe. Orin Straylight in Silvermoon City was due to start handing out the extra core each week from the 7 October maintenance on European realms, so European players meet this quest for the first time after the fault had already been found. Blizzard has not said whether it was fixed before that.

None of this has been written up by Blizzard on its own site or forums. The wording above comes from the text of the email itself, reported by two sites that follow the game, and Blizzard has made no statement about how many accounts were touched, how the quest came to be repeatable, or whether anything else was taken back along with the cores. A Nebulous Voidcore is what a player spends to bonus roll, which is an extra chance at loot on top of what a boss already drops.
