WoW Forever: the Horde can walk into Dalaran after all

Clear the new dungeon, finish the quest chain behind it, and the guards stop attacking. The fountain is open to everyone.

WoW ForeverPublished One report so far, not confirmed by Blizzard

Two armoured travellers crossing a stone bridge at night past guards standing aside, silhouetted against mist glowing on the canal.

Dalaran was an Alliance city in the original game and testers expected it to stay one. On the beta it does not: a Horde character who clears the City of Dalaran dungeon and works through the quest chain behind it is let in at the gate, and the guards who used to attack on sight turn neutral.

The chain runs through the dungeon rather than around it. Heart of Disruption is the questline that pays out the Dalaran Sewer Key, and the last step asks for an Arcane Mote taken from the Shade of the Archmage, the boss at the end. Carrying it into the city and handing it to Archmage Celindra closes the quest called Shrewd Negotiations, and from then on the place is walkable.

What a Horde player actually gets inside is narrower than the welcome suggests. Most of the citizens will not trade with you at all. What does work is worth the trip anyway: arrows, food and drink from the vendors who will serve, mage training, and the stables, which means a hunter can finally swap pets without crossing the map. And the fountain is a fountain, so fishing coins out of it is now open to both sides.

This comes from testers on the beta rather than from an announcement. Blizzard has not written about the change, has not said whether the city stays open to the Horde at launch and has not explained what the citizens who refuse service are waiting for. The beta runs until 21 October, and WoW Forever opens at 23:00 UK time on 4 November, which is midnight on 5 November in Central Europe.
