WoW Forever: players report a survey asking about 11 classes
Beta players say Blizzard sent them an opt-in survey asking how interested they would be in 11 classes, among them Bard and Tinker. Nothing has been announced.
Players in the WoW Forever beta say Blizzard sent them a survey asking how interested they would be in classes the game has never had. Over the past few days, a small number of users of the Battle.net launcher were shown an invitation to take part in an opt-in survey. The survey asked the people taking it not to pass its contents on, but screenshots and descriptions were published online anyway, among other places in the Classic WoW subreddit. Blizzard has announced nothing. This is a survey about opinions, not a plan and not an announcement, and the questions are known only from what players published: we have not seen the survey ourselves.
According to players who filled it in, the survey asked about interest in 11 classes: Bard, Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Illusionist, Monk, Necromancer, San'layn, Tinker, Warden, Witch, and one more listed under 3 names, Metalborn, Runemaster or Runeknight. Three of those exist in modern World of Warcraft but have never been part of Classic: Death Knight, Demon Hunter and Monk. The rest have never been playable classes in any version of the game. WoW Forever currently has 9 classes, and which races can play each of them is set out separately.
The descriptions players published go into some detail on a few of the ideas, and there is nothing from Blizzard to check them against. The Tinker is described as piloting a mech suit that can be set up to take hits, deal damage or support the group, with the pilot and the mech each having their own life. The San'layn are described as vampiric knights in heavy plate who drain the vitality out of their enemies and fight best in melee. The Demon Hunter is described as much slower and less mobile than the version in Legion, and as belonging to a smaller, older group somewhere in Azeroth rather than to Illidan's followers.
Classes were not the only subject: players say the survey also asked about the future of WoW Forever in general. Nothing in it says Blizzard intends to build any of these classes, and no date, patch or promise is attached to any of them. The beta runs until 21 October, and WoW Forever launches at 23:00 UK time on 4 November, which is midnight on 5 November in Central Europe. Blizzard has said nothing about new classes for launch or for after it.
