WoW Forever: Spawn of Grubthor pet found in beta files

A new companion pet called Spawn of Grubthor has been found in the game files of the latest WoW Forever beta build, according to a report published on 24 September. Blizzard has not announced the pet: it was datamined, which means it was read out of the files players download, not shown in patch notes or an official post. Apart from the name, the report shows only the item's text, which says that right-clicking it summons and dismisses Spawn of Grubthor.

The name points to Grubthor, a level 58 rare elite monster found in Silithus in the original game. Going by the name alone, the report suggests the pet could be a drop from Grubthor. That is a guess, though: the report says it does not yet know where the pet will drop from.

If the pet does drop from Grubthor, testers cannot get it in the beta. Grubthor is level 58, well above anything players can reach there: the beta level cap started at 20, and Blizzard has said it will rise to 30 and stay there until the test ends.

The report warns that Forever handles datamining and encryption differently from other versions of WoW, that anything found this way may change by launch, and that parts of its reading of the data are guesswork. On the same day, a levelling item set, Rotmender's Raiment, was also found in the beta files and reported.

For now Spawn of Grubthor is known only from this one report on the game files, and Blizzard has not confirmed the pet or said whether it will be in the launch version. The beta runs until 21 October, and WoW Forever launches at 23:00 UK time on 4 November, which is midnight on 5 November in Central Europe.
