WoW Midnight: Forever's better water and lighting to follow
Blizzard designer Kris Zierhut says the improved water and lighting made for WoW Forever are coming to the modern game as well, with no date yet.

The new water and lighting built for WoW Forever are not meant to stay there. In an interview ahead of the Forever launch, Blizzard designer Kris Zierhut was asked why the graphical changes went into Forever and not into the current game, and answered that they were simply made in Forever first.
Zierhut said he thinks the team plans to do some of the same things in the modern game eventually, so it is not a Forever-only feature. In his words, better water and better lighting are coming for retail as well. He added that he does not know when, only that the team behind the current game is talking about doing it.
Forever was shown with reworked shadows, lighting and water, and because it runs on the same client as the modern game, many players had asked whether those changes could come across. Until now Blizzard had said nothing about this for Midnight.
This rests on one interview answer. Blizzard has not announced a patch, a date or any detail for the modern game, and Zierhut was careful to say he was describing discussions rather than a plan. Forever itself launches for Europe at midnight on 5 November in Central Europe, and you can check the realm types ahead of it.
