WoW Forever: dungeon experience goes up by 20%

Blizzard still does not want running dungeons to be the fastest way to level, but it wants the gap closed. A separate bug was fixed too.

Experience from kills inside dungeons goes up by 20% in WoW Forever. Josh Greenfield announced the figure in the 3rd episode of Blizzard's own podcast, and added afterwards that with perfect play the levelling rate in dungeons should end up very close to, if not equal to, what optimal questing gives. A separate bug with dungeon experience has been fixed as well, which he says should make it feel significantly better.

The change comes with an explanation of why dungeons were held back in the first place. Rowan Ryder, a senior game designer on the encounter team, said the team has been reading the argument and asked players to remember that this is a beta being actively tuned. He set out where the line is meant to sit: "we don't necessarily want you to run it once and be done with it", and dungeons should be worth repeating, but "just grinding dungeons isn't the optimal way to play".

He gave the reasoning behind that, which is about the world outside the dungeon door: Blizzard wants a reason to go outside, to meet different people and to do different things, and says that should not come at the cost of dungeons feeling unrewarding or unexciting to play. In other words the aim is not to make dungeons the best option but to stop them being the worst one.

This is the argument that has run through the beta since the first week, and it has moved before: an earlier build cut the experience from dungeon quests, which is what started it. The beta runs until 21 October, and WoW Forever opens at 23:00 UK time on 4 November, which is midnight on 5 November in Central Europe.
