WoW Forever: layer change briefly cloned NPCs and mobs

A change to layers on the evening of 6 November filled zones with copies of the same creatures. Blizzard called it a blip in the multiverse.

For a short while on the evening of 6 November, NPCs and mobs in WoW Forever were copied across layers. Several identical creatures, around 10 in some places, stood on the same spot, which made some areas very dangerous and left others full of clones of a single NPC.

It happened as adjustments were being made to how layers work, after Blizzard promised to liven up areas that felt too empty, capital cities among them. Blizzard itself has not explained the cause.

Players were told through a server message: "There was a slight blip in the multiverse. We are in the process of de-blipping all zones now." The fix brought a long spell of lag, and a second server message apologised for it and said things should be working better.

The game now looks more or less stable, and the capitals are busier. One side effect remains from the earlier boat and zeppelin repairs: everyone riding them appears to end up on the same layer, which makes the crossings very crowded.
